Meals That Matter returns to Co-op stores supporting Special Olympics athletes
Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP), Co-op, and Special Olympics Great Britain (GB) have launched the second edition of the Meals That Matter campaign in Co-op stores nationwide. Running until September 1st, the initiative turns every qualifying lunchtime meal deal, when paired with a 500ml bottle or can of Coca-Cola Original Taste, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, or Diet Coke, into a 5p donation for Special Olympics GB. The funds will support year-round sports programs for over 12,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities across England, Scotland, and Wales.
The campaign aligns with the first National Summer Games in nine years, held in Birmingham from August 27th to 30th, featuring over 1,200 athletes. Since its 2025 launch, Meals That Matter has raised over £200,000 for Special Olympics GB, promoting visibility and inclusion for athletes. Makaton symbols are included in promotional materials to ensure accessibility for those who rely on the communication method.
Four athletes, Angus Leckonby, Taylor MacKenzie, Ellie‑Bea Thomas, and Alex Rae, are at the heart of the campaign, with their stories displayed in 290 Co-op stores nationwide. The partnership extends beyond the campaign, with Coca-Cola and CCEP named Headline Partners of the 2026 National Summer Games, supported by the ‘We Can’ campaign.
Holly Firmin of CCEP highlighted how the campaign transforms everyday shopping into meaningful support. Laura Baxter MBE of Special Olympics GB emphasized the importance of visibility for athletes, while Michael Williams of Co-op noted the campaign’s popularity among members. Coca-Cola has been a founding partner of Special Olympics since 1968, continuing its legacy through volunteering and fundraising.
