Merck Expands Singapore Biosafety Lab to Bolster Asia Pacific Services
Merck is expanding its Singapore biosafety testing laboratory to strengthen services across the Asia Pacific region. The move marks a significant milestone in providing advanced, local contract testing services for the growing biopharma industry.
The expanded facility will offer both Cell Line Characterization services and GMP next-generation sequencing (NGS) capabilities, making it the first BioReliance facility in Asia-Pacific to do so. It will also feature advanced molecular methods, including Blazar, a proprietary platform for rapid virus detection.
According to Paolo Carli, Head of Advanced Solutions for the Life Science business of Merck, localizing these BioReliance testing capabilities means that biopharma customers can accelerate their development timelines and meet evolving regulatory standards. The expansion underscores Merck's commitment to empowering medicine makers with industry-leading analytical and biosafety testing services.
The Singapore lab was opened in 2018 and will now cover over 1,000 square meters following the expansion. This is part of Merck's broader strategy to support the region's dynamic life science ecosystem and drive scientific progress.
