Merck (NYSE:MRK) is set to announce its Q2 earnings on Tuesday before market hours, and investors are eagerly awaiting the results. The company had a strong quarter last time around, beating analysts' revenue expectations with $16.29 billion in revenues, up 4.9% year on year.

This time around, analysts expect Merck's revenue to grow by 3%, reversing the 1.9% decrease it recorded in Q2 last year. Despite some fluctuations, the company rarely misses Wall Street's revenue estimates, and its peers in the pharmaceuticals segment have provided a positive indication of what to expect.

Corcept delivered year-on-year revenue growth of 7.3%, while Bristol-Myers Squibb reported revenues up 5.7%. Both companies' results topped analysts' expectations, with Corcept trading up 27.3% and Bristol-Myers Squibb up 3%.
