Merck Sued Over Sister's Brain Cancer Link to Flint River Plant

Merck, a pharmaceutical giant, is seeking to dismiss a lawsuit alleging that its Flint River Plant caused brain cancer in two Albany sisters. The complaint was filed against Merck and several other defendants, including companies responsible for disposing of hazardous waste at the plant.

The lawsuit claims that the sisters were exposed to toxic chemicals while living near the plant, leading to their diagnoses with glioblastoma, a type of aggressive brain cancer. Attorneys for the plaintiffs argue that the defendants' negligence and failure to properly contain hazardous waste led to the contamination of the surrounding area.

Merck has denied any wrongdoing and is contesting the lawsuit. In court documents, the company claims that it did not contribute to the sisters' illnesses and that they cannot be held liable for any damages.
