Meta's Free AI Agent Challenges Alphabet's Paid Model
Meta Platforms has given users access to its free AI agent, Muse, which has seen over 5 million downloads in just three weeks. This move by Meta is a stark contrast to Alphabet's approach with its own AI agent, Spark, which remains behind a paywall despite having 950 million monthly active users.
The gap between these two strategies could potentially impact one of the most valuable revenue streams in tech, according to JPMorgan. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has stated that the company plans to earn money from Muse by taking a small fee on transactions. This approach relies heavily on reach, as Meta's family of apps has seen 3.6 billion daily active users.
Alphabet's Gemini app, which has 950 million monthly active users, has shown strong test results in coding and cyber but still failed to impress investors, with shares falling 1.43% after the launch. In contrast, Meta saw a significant increase in usage, with 60% more people using its assistant daily after rebuilding it around Muse models.
