Michael L. Smith, Owner of Cloverdale Hardware, Passes Away at 82

Michael L. Smith, an 82-year-old resident of Gosport, Indiana, passed away on September 17th, 2026, at I.U. Health Bloomington, IN.

Smith was a successful businessman who owned Cloverdale Hardware and Lumber Co. since 1965. He graduated from Cloverdale High School in the Class of 1962 and attended both Purdue University and Indianapolis Business College.

Before establishing his own business, Smith worked at Holcomb and Holt Engineers in Indianapolis and IBM. He was a proud member of several community organizations, including the Masonic Lodge in Quincy, the Lions Club, and the Cloverdale Fire Department's volunteer group.

Smith served for 7 years in the National Guard and left behind a legacy as a devoted husband to his wife Marsha (Harrah) Smith, whom he married in 1969. His family also included numerous nieces and nephews, in addition to many friends and customers from Cloverdale Hardware.
