Michele Sees Opportunity in Long-End Bonds Amid 'Maximum Pain'
JPMorgan Asset Management's Bob Michele is optimistic about the long-end bond market. According to him, current prices are 'simply too cheap' and markets have reached a point of 'maximum pain.' This led his team to begin buying US, Japanese, and Australian bonds.
The sequence of central bank actions has been a key driver of support in debt markets. Michele mentioned the European Central Bank's hike last week, followed by the Federal Reserve, and culminating with the Bank of Japan's move on Friday. He believes this is creating an opportunity for investors to buy long-end bonds at attractive prices.
Michele also identified a potential stabilization in the Middle East as another crucial factor supporting debt markets. This development may contribute to a more stable economic environment, further boosting bond prices.
