Microsoft Admits Error in OneDrive Photos App Rollout

Microsoft's OneDrive Photos app has been automatically installing on Windows 11 devices, much to the dismay of users who don't want it.

The new app is an incubation project that Microsoft was testing without user consent. According to Jeff Teper, EVP of Apps and Agents at Microsoft, the app 'went more broadly than it should have in Windows' and will be fixed soon.

The OneDrive Photos experience is a web app that consumes high amounts of RAM and has been described as not very responsive. It's unclear why Microsoft felt the need to create this dedicated app, given that Windows already comes with an effective photo viewer for OneDrive photos.
