Microsoft and Shopify Thrive Amidst Software Apocalypse
Despite the current software apocalypse induced by AI, some companies are adapting and thriving. Microsoft and Shopify are two examples of this resilience.
Microsoft, founded in 1975, has navigated several technological changes and revolutions throughout its history. The company's latest financial results show that it is still strong, with revenue increasing 18% year over year to $90 billion and earnings per share jumping 32% to $4.81.
The Microsoft Cloud was a particularly strong performer, posting 27% year-over-year sales growth, while Azure saw a 43% increase in sales compared to the previous period. The company's cloud backlog ended at $678 billion, up 84% from last year.
Shopify also posted impressive results, with revenue jumping 34% year over year to $3.6 billion and net income increasing 30%. The company expects revenue growth in the low thirties for the third quarter.
