Microsoft Axes Exchange Web Services in Phased Rollout

Microsoft is quietly making changes to its Exchange Online service that will impact Apple users.

The tech giant has decided to disable Exchange Web Services (EWS) by default, a cross-platform API that allows applications to access and manage mailbox items in Microsoft Exchange and Exchange Online. This move will cut off the protocol relied upon by Apple's Mail and Calendar apps on Mac to sync with Microsoft 365 work accounts.

According to Microsoft, organizations that have chosen to keep EWS running are unaffected for now, but for everyone else, the cutoff may not happen all at once. Instead, it will be a 'phased rollout' as described in an updated post from June.
