Microsoft Azure Surges Past $100 Billion in Revenue Amid AI Boom
The three largest cloud providers, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure, reported strong double-digit growth in the second quarter of this year. This growth is largely driven by increasing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and solutions.
AWS, which is a subsidiary of Amazon, saw its cloud revenue increase 37% year over year to $42.2 billion, marking its fastest growth in 18 quarters. The company's AI and chips businesses each delivered triple-digit growth, with run rates exceeding $25 billion. CEO Andy Jassy noted that this growth was fueled by strong demand for these services.
Microsoft Azure also saw significant growth, increasing 43% year over year to surpass $100 billion in revenue for the first time. Microsoft's cloud segment made headlines as it continues to invest heavily in AI infrastructure and solutions.
Alphabet, Google Cloud's parent company, reported an even more impressive 82% increase in revenue to $25 billion. CEO Sundar Pichai noted that 90% of Fortune 100 companies use its Gemini Enterprise AI platform.
