Microsoft Bolsters Azure IoT Security with TLS 1.3 and Managed Identity

Microsoft has strengthened the security of its Azure IoT services by introducing several new features aimed at protecting device onboarding, connectivity, and lifecycle management. The company has added support for TLS 1.3 to Azure IoT Hub and Device Provisioning Service (DPS), ensuring that all data exchanged between devices and cloud services is encrypted.

The update also brings managed identity support to Azure IoT Hub, allowing devices to authenticate with the service without requiring a connection string. This feature is now available in preview for customers to try out. In addition, Device Update for IoT Hub can now deliver update content over HTTPS, encrypting it in transit between the Device Update service and devices.

The changes are part of Microsoft's ongoing commitment to security-first practices in its Azure IoT services. With these enhancements, customers can enjoy more secure device onboarding and connectivity, reducing the risk of data breaches and cyber attacks.
