Microsoft Combines Disparate AI Tools into Unified Copilot Super-App

Microsoft is streamlining its Copilot AI portfolio by merging various versions into a single app. The move will simplify interactions with chatbots for both personal and professional needs in one place.

The tech giant announced that Microsoft 365 Copilot and the standard version of Copilot will combine to form Microsoft Copilot, featuring its own distinct icon. This integration is part of the company's plan to create a 'super-app' specifically designed for Windows 11.

Over the next few weeks, all web and mobile versions of Copilot will be merged, with the Windows and Mac apps being updated by mid-September. Users will be able to access select popular Microsoft 365 apps like Word and Excel directly through Copilot.

In addition to this change, Microsoft is discontinuing some tools, including Podcasts and Deep Research, starting August 18. Group chats in Copilot will not be transferred to the new app, and other components may experience temporary disruptions as AI features are integrated into a single suite.
