Microsoft Ends Support for Surface Devices in 2027: What You Need to Know

Microsoft has announced that it will stop releasing driver and firmware updates for six Surface devices in 2027. These devices include the Surface Pro 7+, Surface Laptop 4, Surface Pro 8, Surface Laptop Studio, Surface Go 3, and the Surface Pro X Wi-Fi. The company promised support for six years for devices released after 2021.

The end-of-servicing dates vary by device: April 15, 2027, for the Surface Laptop 4, and October 5, 2027, for the other five devices. This means that when a new version of Windows is released, these devices will no longer receive firmware updates to ensure compatibility.

Micosoft emphasizes that users can continue using their devices as normal after support ends, but they may not be able to take advantage of future Windows 11 features or fixes if they break anything specific to the device. Users have two options: continue using the device and hope for the best, or consider upgrading to a new computer.
