Microsoft Excel's Vanishing Features Leave Users Disappointed

Microsoft Excel has been quietly removing or abandoning features that made it so useful to users. One such feature was the partnership with Wolfram, which provided access to hundreds of new data types in 2020.

The connection to Wolfram's data service was severed three years later without explanation, and while existing workbooks still retain the data types, they no longer have a direct link to the service.

Another feature that met an untimely demise is Money in Excel, which allowed users to connect their bank accounts, credit cards, investments, and loans directly into a spreadsheet. Although Microsoft recommended Tiller as a replacement, it costs $99 per year and lacks some of the original feature's functionality.

The COPILOT function was also introduced but ultimately removed after only a few months. This AI-powered tool aimed to bring language models directly into Excel cells but never made it out of beta testing.
