Boeing Lands Multi-Billion-Dollar Navy Contract for Next-Gen Fighter

Boeing has secured a multi-billion-dollar contract from the U.S. Navy to design, build, and deliver the F/A-XX, a sixth-generation carrier-based fighter aircraft.

The award is significant for Boeing as it represents the company's second selection for a U.S. sixth-generation fighter program after being chosen by the Air Force for its F-47 program in 2025.

According to Boeing, the F/A-XX will introduce advances in areas including open mission systems architecture, advanced mission systems, operational reach, and combat capacity, although specific details remain classified under U.S. national security and export laws.

The contract also builds on Boeing's investment in its defense manufacturing footprint in St. Louis, Missouri, where the company is constructing a new secure manufacturing facility to support multiple advanced aircraft programs with next-generation capabilities.

Boeing's strategy has been to prepare its manufacturing infrastructure, technology, and workforce to support more than one future combat aircraft program simultaneously, which will require coordination of separate classified development programs while expanding production capacity and maintaining specialized engineering and manufacturing talent.
