Microsoft Expands Auto SR Super Resolution Tech to Intel Core Ultra Series 3 PCs
Microsoft has expanded its Auto SR (Super Resolution) technology to Intel Core Ultra Series 3-based PCs, a move that aims to improve gaming performance without compromising visual quality. Auto SR renders games at a lower resolution and uses AI upscaling to reach a higher effective resolution, delivering smoother frame rates and consistent visuals.
The feature was initially limited to Snapdragon X-based Copilot+ PCs but is now available on x86 chipsets, starting with the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 'Panther Lake' processors. Users can download the Auto Super Resolution Package app from the Microsoft Store to enable this functionality on their PCs.
According to Stefan Bojanic, a Microsoft product manager, Auto SR is optimized for 800p but supports up to 1080p on Core Ultra Series 3-based PCs. It provides higher in-game graphics settings and frame rates, typically around 15% higher than normal, without requiring explicit game maker or driver support.
Microsoft recommends testing Auto SR with a range of games, including Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, Assetto Corsa, and Far Cry 6, which are texture-heavy and benefit from the technology. The company also notes that it will continue to improve visual fidelity and performance for a better gaming experience.
