Microsoft Expands India Cloud Footprint Amidst Growing Demand for AI Services
Microsoft has expanded its cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure footprint in India by launching its fourth cloud region in Hyderabad. The new region, known as India South Central, joins Microsoft's existing cloud regions in Pune, Chennai, and Mumbai.
The launch is part of Microsoft's $20.5-billion investment commitment in India to strengthen cloud capabilities, AI infrastructure, skilling initiatives, and operational expansion.
According to Microsoft India and South Asia President Puneet Chandok, India generates nearly 20 per cent of the world's data but accounts for only about 3 per cent of global data centre capacity. This disparity presents a significant opportunity for growth in the country's digital transformation journey.
