Microsoft Launches New Data Centre Region in Hyderabad
Microsoft has launched its newest data centre region in Hyderabad, India, as a strategic hub for Asia and the Global South. The new region is part of Microsoft's $20.5 billion commitment to India and will provide organisations with more capacity, resilience, and choice.
The region, named India South Central, is Microsoft's fourth cloud region in India and features AI-capable infrastructure and high-efficiency cooling. It has launched with a broad portfolio of Azure services and is designed to support the wider Azure and AI portfolio as additional capabilities roll out.
India's data centre buildout could generate $140-200 billion in economic output by 2030, according to a report by BCG. Microsoft says its Indian cloud regions provide capabilities aligned with Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) guidelines and are designed to help customers address applicable requirements under the Digital Personal Data Protection framework.
Microsoft's strategy extends beyond the data centre, as it is a consortium partner in I-2SEA, a planned 3,600km submarine cable connecting India with Malaysia and Singapore. The system will strengthen regional connectivity and network resilience for growing AI, cloud, and hyperscale demand.
