Microsoft Leaks Details of Next-Gen Xbox Elite Series 3 Controller
Microsoft has accidentally leaked details about its upcoming Xbox Elite Series 3 Controller through its Design Lab service. The controller, codenamed "Edessa," was briefly listed alongside an accessory or customization product called "Beatrice." The reveal suggests that Microsoft is working on a more customizable controller than the current Elite Series 2.
The new controller reportedly features advanced thumbstick options, including Hall effect modules with standard, loose, and tight tensions, as well as a TMR-based option. This could allow users to customize both the sensing technology and the feel of the sticks. Additionally, there is a low-friction "silent" stick option available in standard and longer neck designs.
Haptic feedback may also receive an upgrade, with one motor configuration combining impulse trigger motors with voice-coil haptics. This could deliver more advanced feedback than the existing Elite controller. Another notable feature is an "Audio Scroll Wheel," which appears to be a dedicated physical dial for controlling audio.
Faceplates will include metal finishes, predefined designs, multiple colors, and engraving options. Paddle configurations are extensive, covering standard, classic, and doublewide shapes, with different lengths and layouts, including a Butterfly arrangement or no upper paddles. The Beatrice platform alone reportedly contains 27 topper and paddle combinations.
Four SKUs are mentioned in the data, including Elite Complete and Base versions, each available with or without motors. The Elite Complete package reportedly includes a carrying case, charging dock, and additional paddle configurations, while the Base model comes with a cable and a simpler setup. Although Microsoft and Spectrum have since removed the data from public records, some information has remained thanks to a Redditor, u/esketitethan.
