Microsoft Merges Copilot Apps, Confusion Ensues for Users

Microsoft's Copilot branding is causing confusion for users, as the company merges two Copilot apps into one. The Microsoft 365 app has been renamed to Microsoft Copilot, and its social media accounts are pointing users to follow @msftcopilot for updates on AI at work.

The merger comes after years of rebranding efforts, with Microsoft renaming the Office app to Microsoft 365 in November 2022, then to Microsoft 365 Copilot in January 2025, and finally to Microsoft Copilot in August 2026. This has led to a confusing naming convention for users.

Microsoft's support document states that the new app name and icon reflect the integration of Copilot within Microsoft 365. The app still works the same way, but the two Copilot apps and their web addresses are consolidating into one at copilot.cloud.microsoft.
