Microsoft Nears $5 Trillion Mark as Azure Growth Surges
Microsoft is on track to become one of the world's most valuable companies, with its market capitalization potentially reaching $5 trillion. The tech giant has already surpassed $3.74 trillion in value, and its Azure business has crossed the $100 billion mark. With commercial bookings stacking up at a rapid pace, the math behind Microsoft's unprecedented valuation milestone is becoming clearer.
The catalyst for Microsoft's rebound was its July 29 earnings report, which saw Q4 FY26 revenue rise by 17.75% and non-GAAP EPS beat expectations by 11.81%. Azure growth of 43% also contributed to the company's strong performance. Commercial RPO ballooned to $678 billion, up 84%, providing investors with unprecedented forward visibility.
Bulls see a breakout ahead due to demand exceeding supply, as Amy Hood stated 'Demand continues to exceed available supply.' Microsoft guided Q1 FY27 Azure growth to roughly 45% in constant currency. The company's 365 Copilot now has 30 million paid seats, with net additions more than doubling sequentially.
However, the bear case centers on capital intensity, with FY26 CapEx hitting $115.95 billion and free cash flow falling by 6.46%. More Personal Computing revenue declined 4%, and insider activity is characterized as selling. Despite this, bulls will counter that Hood framed CapEx as flexible, noting 'if the demand environment changes, you just slow down' the short-lived GPU and CPU spend that drives most of the outlay.
