Microsoft Patent Seeks To Revolutionize In-Game Advertising With Contextual Breaks
Microsoft has filed a patent application for an in-game advertising system that targets natural breaks in gameplay, such as after boss fights or loading screens. This approach aims to minimize disruption and provide a more seamless experience for players.
The proposed system would allow games to pause the player's interaction, display ads, and then resume play after the ad has run. The ads would be triggered by game-state data, such as level completion or menu transitions, rather than relying on a fixed timer.
This model could potentially support free-to-play games without interrupting gameplay at random points. Players would initially receive an ad-free period, which could last for 30 minutes or until a certain level is completed. The system would then wait for the game to reach a suitable pause point before displaying ads.
