Microsoft Patents Personalized Gaming Experience with AI-Powered Ads
Microsoft has filed two patent applications that describe innovative ways to engage players in games. The first application, 'Generative Narrative Game Experience With Player Feedback,' describes a system that tracks player behavior and uses generative AI to create new content based on their interactions. This means that if a player spends more time exploring a particular region of the game world, the game will generate new quests, lore, monsters, and characters for that area.
The system also measures players' facial expressions and reactions to fine-tune the experience. Microsoft's filing states, 'Players have the potential to become co-creators of the game.'
The second application, 'Contextually Aware Management of Interactive Software Application Access,' describes a system that converts natural pauses in gameplay into ad inventory based on the player's position in the game. This means that when a player reaches a loading screen or pauses during a cutscene, an ad will be displayed.
These two patent applications together describe a closed loop that knows who you are, what you feel, and exactly when you're ready to look away. If implemented, this system would allow Microsoft to create personalized experiences for players based on their behavior and emotions.
