Microsoft Prioritizes Compatibility Over Modernization in Windows 11

According to Corporate Vice President of Design and Research Marcus Ash, changing these tools, such as Control Panel and File Explorer, can be 'tricky' because they have a significant impact on legacy functionality.

Ash explained that the company's goal is to maintain its 'compatibility promise,' which means ensuring that new features do not break existing workflow or applications. This approach may delay modernization efforts, but it allows users to continue using their systems without disruption.

The executive emphasized that Microsoft uses data and feedback from users to determine what changes to make to the UI. He stated that they look at 'user journeys' to identify areas where improvements can be made without compromising compatibility.
