Microsoft Redirects $5 Million Incentive for Mount Pleasant Tax Relief
Microsoft has redirected its $5 million annual development incentive to the Village of Mount Pleasant, allowing for immediate and long-term property tax relief.
The village approved a development agreement with Microsoft in 2023, which included annual incentives of up to $5 million. However, due to the increased property value created by Microsoft's developments, the company is eligible to receive the incentive.
The Village of Mount Pleasant will dedicate the funding to two forms of tax relief: keeping tax bills stable while maintaining village services and covering capital costs.
The tax relief will be reflected in December property tax bills and will continue for years to come. The village will also use the funds to rebuild roads and purchase police and fire vehicles without borrowing money, saving taxpayers from debt and interest costs.
