Microsoft Releases Five New Windows Insider Builds with Key Updates
Microsoft has rolled out five new Windows Insider builds ahead of its upcoming Windows 11 and Surface event. The upcoming event is expected to recap the improvements made to the operating system as part of the Windows K2 initiative. Many of the biggest changes to Windows 11 are already available through Windows 11 version 26H2, but additional updates are still in development and being tested by Windows Insiders.
The latest updates include support for Unicode 17.0, which adds 4,803 new characters and support for four newly encoded scripts: Beria Erfe, Sidetic, Tai Yo, and Tolong Siki. This update helps keep Windows text support current as the Unicode Standard evolves. Other improvements include performance enhancements to the Settings home page, a new entry point for Cloud Rebuild in the Recovery settings, and various refinements to File Explorer and Windows Magnifier.
Cloud Rebuild, a new recovery option, allows users to restore their Windows 11 PC to a clean state by performing a full OS reinstall, even if Windows won't boot. This feature downloads the target Windows image and the device's drivers from Windows Update, ensuring the device comes back fully functional without USB media or a custom image. The update also introduces the ability to sanitize the device's drives as part of the rebuild, providing an option to securely erase data before Windows is reinstalled.
Other notable updates include improvements to the File Explorer address bar, which now supports paths containing double backslashes and quotation marks, and refinements to the Windows Magnifier, which now allows users to type an exact zoom percentage directly in the toolbar. The update also fixes several issues affecting Remote Desktop, audio devices, and the taskbar.
