Microsoft Releases Windows 11 Version 26H2 Update, Resets Support Clock

Microsoft has rolled out the Windows 11 2026 Update, version 26H2, as an enablement package for eligible devices running Windows 11 version 24H2 or 25H2. This update is now available through a controlled feature rollout rather than a mass deployment.

For most users, the move to 26H2 is relatively minor, with Microsoft delivering the release as a lightweight update that switches on features already present on the system through previous monthly updates. Versions 24H2, 25H2, and 26H2 share a common servicing branch and codebase, so installation is similar to a monthly cumulative update.

The update brings together the Windows improvements, security fixes, and enhancements delivered over the past year to version 25H2, which have already been reached by up-to-date PCs through monthly updates. Some features released as disabled by default in 25H2 are now turned on by default in 26H2 for commercial PCs.

The more significant change is the support clock, with installing 26H2 resetting the Windows 11 support lifecycle to 24 months for Home and Pro editions and 36 months for Enterprise and Education editions. This update is particularly important for users who do not want to wait for the gradual rollout, as it will be the direct path to stay on a supported release.
