Microsoft Rolls Back Years of Decisions with Best Windows 11 Update Yet

Microsoft has released its best Windows 11 update in years, and it's mostly about undoing past decisions. The September 2026 Patch Tuesday update includes a feature that allows users to move their taskbar to different edges of the screen, a change that was first introduced in an experimental build earlier this year.

This is not the only thing Microsoft has reversed; the company has also added Start menu size options and independent toggles for each section. However, these new features are incomplete, as users still cannot drag the taskbar to a new edge on the fly or resize it freely.

The update also includes a change that allows users to bypass forced update stalls when powering off their PC. This was first introduced in an Insider build earlier this year and is now available in the official patch notes.

Microsoft has been gradually restoring features from Windows 10 over the past few years, but some users may still not see these changes due to staged rollouts and lingering update bugs.
