Microsoft Rolls Out Disc-to-Digital Program for Xbox One and Series X

Microsoft's disc-to-digital program for Xbox One and Series X games is now available to all users globally, starting September 29, 2026. This feature allows players to convert physical discs into digital copies, providing a seamless transition to future consoles.

The supported titles gain extra perks such as Xbox Play Anywhere PC access and Xbox Cloud Gaming support. Thousands of titles are included in the program, but original Xbox and Xbox 360 games are not supported.

This move contrasts with Sony's plan to end disc production by 2028 without a clear path for physical PS4/PS5 game libraries. Microsoft's timing is seen as fortuitous, allowing gamers who prefer physical copies to confidently transition to the next-generation consoles.
