Microsoft Sees Romania as AI Opportunity Amid Lagging Adoption Rates
Microsoft marked its 30th anniversary in Romania by highlighting the country's potential for growth through artificial intelligence (AI) adoption. According to Microsoft's Global AI Diffusion Report, Romania ranks 65th among 147 economies analyzed, with a generative AI usage rate of 18% among the working-age population.
The report notes that while Romania has a strong foundation for AI adoption, including technical talent and a growing innovation ecosystem, the pace needs to accelerate. Microsoft General Manager Gabriela Popescu emphasized the importance of speed in capturing the value of AI, stating that 'the countries that move first will capture most of the value.'
The company sees four areas where AI can make a significant difference for Romania: new opportunities for Romanian companies, simpler public services, skills for the AI economy, and a more competitive country. Microsoft plans to support responsible AI adoption across the private sector and in public services, education, and healthcare.
