Microsoft Sets 2029 Deadline for Phasing Out Internet Explorer

Microsoft has signaled that it will eventually phase out Internet Explorer (IE), starting from at least the end of 2029. The company retired the old-school browser on Windows PCs in 2023, but IE Mode lives on in Microsoft's Edge browser.

The decision to keep IE Mode was made due to some older websites, including government portals, being accessible only through Internet Explorer. However, Microsoft has now reminded IT administrators that IE mode won't be around forever.

In a message to admins, the company emphasized the importance of planning migrations for legacy websites and applications that still depend on IE mode. It also stated that application modernization projects can take years to complete, depending on the number and complexity of dependencies.
