Microsoft Stock Disclosure Sparks Recusal Debate in Copyright Case
Federal Magistrate Judge Ona T. Wang recently disclosed that she owned Microsoft Corp. stock while overseeing high-profile copyright lawsuits against the company and OpenAI Inc.
The disclosure, made in a Friday filing, acknowledged that Wang's ownership of the stock would normally require her to recuse herself from the case due to potential conflicts of interest.
However, Wang explained that she had divested her interest in Microsoft Corporation before making any decisions on the case and stated that her ownership 'has not affected or impacted any decision in this case.'
