Microsoft to Unveil Surface Laptop Ultra and Windows Updates on October 7
Microsoft is set to host a special event in San Francisco on October 7, focusing on Windows, RTX Spark, and Surface. While details remain scarce, the event follows the controversial Copilot+ PC launch earlier this year, which faced significant backlash over features like Recall. The company will livestream the event, hinting at major announcements.
A key highlight will be the Surface Laptop Ultra, which was first unveiled in June. The event is expected to reveal more about its hardware, capabilities, and availability. The laptop will emphasize its ability to run local AI models with up to 120B parameters, targeting AI developers and content creators who use apps like Premiere Pro and Blender. Microsoft will also demonstrate the laptop's performance parity whether plugged in or running on battery, along with its high-resolution PixelSense Ultra display.
The Surface Laptop Ultra will come in two RTX Spark configurations: an 18-core model with 5,120 GPU cores and a 20-core model with 6,144 GPU cores. RAM options range from 24GB to 128GB, with Windows 11 Home on entry-level SKUs and Windows 11 Pro on higher-end models. Pricing is expected to start well above $2,000 for the base model.
Microsoft will also discuss updates to Windows, including the Windows K2 effort, which has focused on performance, reliability, and feature improvements. The company is likely to highlight new unified memory controls for RTX Spark PCs and showcase how Windows 11 now supports agents, enabling local and secure AI workflows. Additionally, Microsoft may unveil a voice-enhanced user experience, aimed at making voice input more natural and fluid across applications.
