Microsoft Tones Down Predictive Text in Word and Outlook

Microsoft is making changes to its Word and Outlook applications to give users more control over predictive text suggestions. The feature, which has been available for several years, will no longer be enabled by default in these programs. According to Microsoft, some users find the suggestions helpful, while others prefer to write without them.

Text predictions are designed to assist users with writing documents and emails by suggesting words and phrases as they type. However, for those who don't want or need this feature, it can be an interruption rather than a help.

The change will affect Word for Windows, the web, iOS, and Android, as well as classic Outlook for Windows and Outlook for Mac. Users who still want to use predictive text will have to opt-in through the applications' settings.
