Microsoft Tops Goldman's AI Picks as Enterprise Demand Surges
Goldman Sachs has upgraded Microsoft (MSFT) to its top artificial intelligence pick, citing strong enterprise customer momentum. The bank's analysts met with senior company leaders across Europe and San Francisco in September, reaffirming their bullish stance on the stock.
The core of Goldman's case rests on enterprise demand, with the bank noting that Microsoft's fourth-quarter remaining performance obligations increased by $51 billion, all from enterprise clients rather than frontier AI laboratories. This reduces dependence on any single model provider as the AI ecosystem evolves.
Goldman also emphasized that Microsoft has balanced capital allocation between first-party applications and third-party customers, improving output quality for both Copilot and Microsoft AI. The bank's analysts view these areas as reinforcing each other within a vertically integrated approach to AI compute, platforms, and applications.
