Microsoft has launched Project Zenith, a custom version of Windows 11 designed specifically for AI developers. This streamlined build is tailored for devices with at least 64GB of unified memory and 250+ GB/s memory bandwidth.

Project Zenith aims to provide a 'ready-to-code distraction-free Windows experience' on developer-class devices. It will be pre-installed on AMD's Ryzen AI Halo systems, which are designed for high-performance computing tasks.

The customized version of Windows includes various tools and applications such as Visual Studio Code, WSL, GitHub Copilot CLI, Python 3.14+, Ubuntu, PowerShell, and more to help streamline development, testing, and iteration.

Project Zenith also supports the running of 30B+ parameter models locally, rather than relying on cloud-based services. This feature is designed to address the current AI token issue by shifting some of the workload from the cloud to edge devices like Ryzen AI Halo systems.
