Microsoft Unveils Quantum Research Center in Maryland
Microsoft has opened its quantum research center in Maryland's Discovery District, a year after committing to build it. The company is expanding its commitment through new partnerships for research and training.
The partnership with Maryland aims to create an environment where ideas can move more quickly from research to implementation, with advances in AI and quantum accelerating scientific discovery.
Microsoft worked with the University of Maryland (UMD) and Governor Wes Moore's Capital of Quantum Initiative to design a 15,000 square foot center. It features dedicated areas for Microsoft's proprietary research, space for DARPA's topological system and future prototypes, labs and offices for partner companies, and a community-focused training laboratory.
The center will support quantum research, partner integration, workforce development, and government engagement. It is designed to enable companies that build quantum technology to integrate their machines or components with the Microsoft Quantum platform.
