Microsoft X Account Hijacked for Clippy Crypto Promotion
Hackers briefly seized control of Microsoft's X account on October 1, using it to promote a fake cryptocurrency called $Clippy. The token was tied to Clippy, the retired animated paperclip assistant.
The attackers posted promotional material that claimed Microsoft would bring back Clippy if a post reached 500,000 likes, and paired the token with Microsoft stock, labeled 'MSTF.'
However, no legitimate relationship existed between the token and Microsoft, and X suspended the fraudulent account.
