Microsoft's MDEP Brings Enterprise-Grade Security to Digital Signage
Microsoft's Device Ecosystem Platform (MDEP) has been gaining attention in the digital signage industry, with several companies showcasing its capabilities at recent trade shows. In January 2026, Microsoft, MediaTek, and IAdea previewed a digital signage solution built on MDEP at NRF 2026 in New York. The solution was designed for 24/7 use cases such as restaurant menu boards, high-traffic advertising displays, and interactive kiosks.
The platform, described by AV Magazine as an Android-based platform, brings enterprise-grade security, manageability, and identity governance to endpoints. In the NRF preview, IAdea's Display Solutions on MDEP leveraged identity management, conditional access, device attestation, and centralized lifecycle control. MediaTek supplied the Genio 720 system-on-chip for the preview, an industrial-grade chip with integrated AI acceleration up to 10 TOPS.
Later in June 2026, Avocor and IAdea demonstrated a pairing of MDEP-based signage with Avocor's new B Series displays at InfoComm 2026 in Las Vegas. The demonstration marked the North American debut of Avocor's B Series, designed for 24/7 professional signage in corporate, education, retail, hospitality, and public-sector settings.
The expansion of MDEP is turning displays into IT endpoints, according to AVNation's August coverage of an AVWeek discussion. Industry commentary suggests that MDEP's appeal lies in its tie to Microsoft Intune for organizations already standardized on Microsoft tools. However, licensing costs may add expenses that manufacturers will pass along the supply chain.
