Microsoft's MSFS Developer Stream Highlights Performance Improvements and New Features
Microsoft and Asobo hosted their September 2026 Developer Stream, updating players on several ongoing projects. Sim Update 7 is scheduled for release on October 13th, with a focus on performance improvements, including a new diagnostic tool to help identify execution time spikes. The team also discussed the return of the National Championship Air Races.
Sebastian Wloch, Asobo CEO, explained the Off-Screen Terrain Caching feature and its impact on RAM and VRAM usage. Asobo is evaluating compatibility with DLSS 5 but wants more control over AI-enhanced lighting and shadows. The team also plans to investigate masking cockpit displays to reduce upscaling-related ghosting.
The new EFB Ground Services App, developed by Working Title, will be released with Sim Update 7 in October. This app allows players to control default ground-handling functions directly on the tablet. Working Title is also considering persistence for fluid quantities, such as hydraulic fluid and oil, so that these values are saved between flights.
