Microsoft's Stock Dip: A Buying Opportunity or a Warning?
Microsoft's stock has been on a rollercoaster ride after its Q4 FY2026 report, surging nearly 30% in three weeks and then giving back some of that gain. The recent dip from $520 to around $480 might look alarming, but it could be an opportunity for investors who missed the initial rally.
The company's fundamentals remain strong, with revenue hitting $90 billion, up 18% year-over-year, and Azure crossing $100 billion in annual revenue for the first time. The contracted backlog reached $678 billion, providing a clear view of future AI spending. This number increased by around $51 billion in a single quarter, representing signed revenue waiting to be converted.
The bears are focusing on Microsoft's compressed free cash flow due to record investments in GPUs and data centers. However, this is not unique to the company; other hyperscalers like Alphabet, Amazon, and Meta Platforms have raised their 2026 capital spending guidance recently.
Looking at the chart, the sell-off appears less like a breakdown and more like digestion after the violent recovery. The 50-day moving average has narrowed sharply since April lows near $345. If it continues climbing at its current pace, a golden cross, where the 50-day crosses above the 200-day, could be a realistic setup over the coming weeks.
