Microsoft's Unwanted Photo App Causes Frustration Among Windows 11 Users

Microsoft acknowledged that its OneDrive Photos app was installed on more Windows 11 computers than intended, including some enterprise devices. The company confirmed it was working on a fix but warned users who don't want the application have few options: removing the main OneDrive client, which is not ideal for those who rely on file synchronization.

The issue arose because OneDrive Photos relies on Microsoft Edge's WebView2 technology and can be downloaded in the background by the existing OneDrive synchronisation client. This means users currently cannot remove the application separately from the main OneDrive client, leading to concerns about privacy and user control.

Microsoft plans to allow separate removal controls for the Photos app but did not provide a specific date for when these changes will be implemented.
