Moderna and Merck Cancer Vaccine Shows Promising Results in Late-Stage Trial
Moderna and Merck announced that their personalized melanoma cancer vaccine has shown positive results in a late-stage trial.
The combination treatment, which pairs Moderna's mRNA-based vaccine with Merck's immunotherapy Keytruda, reduced the risk of recurrence and metastasis, according to press releases from both companies.
No data was shared yet, but the companies stated that the results will be presented at an upcoming international meeting.
Moderna's CEO Stéphane Bancel said, 'These Phase 3 findings represent a pivotal moment for the field of cancer research. For many years, the idea of creating an mRNA treatment designed specifically for an individual patient's cancer was aspirational. We are now helping turn that vision into a reality.'
The news sent shares of Moderna's stock soaring up to 177 percent on Wednesday.
