Moderna-Merck Skin Cancer Vaccine Cuts Risk of Recurrence

A revolutionary new skin cancer vaccine developed by Moderna and Merck could slash the risk of dying from melanoma, scientists say.

The jab works by telling the body to hunt down cancer cells and prevent the disease from coming back. It's a personalised treatment that can be custom-built for each person in just a few weeks.

In a phase three trial involving over 1,000 patients, the vaccine was found to reduce the risk of recurrence or death by 49%, and distant metastasis-free survival by 59%.

The results have been hailed as a breakthrough, with experts saying it's proof that personalised cancer vaccines work. It could be available on the NHS as soon as next year if approved by regulators.
