Morgan State University Builds Next-Gen AI Campus with Google
Morgan State University has announced a new collaboration with Google Public Sector to build a next-generation AI campus. This will provide high-performance computing infrastructure for students, educators, and researchers to conduct complex work in fields like AI, cybersecurity, climate science, and health sciences.
The university gains access to Google's Program for Accelerated Research (GPAR), which enables faculty and students to use advanced GPU compute resources. This allows them to conduct increasingly sophisticated research, with a goal of securing Carnegie R1 classification.
Morgan State aims to become the nation's premier designation for 'very high research activity,' unlocking vital federal funding and attracting top talent in the process. The university is constructing its technological ecosystem, developing its own Obsidian AI platform to power research discoveries and campus-wide innovation while maintaining control over governance, security, and accountability.
According to Timothy C. Summers, Ph.D., vice president for the Division of Information Technology and chief information officer at Morgan State University, 'Artificial intelligence is becoming foundational to how institutions conduct research, drive innovation, and compete in the global knowledge economy.'
