Morocco expands military fleet with Oshkosh heavy transport vehicles
Oshkosh Defense, a U.S.-based defense contractor, has landed a new contract to supply heavy transport vehicles to Morocco. The deal, facilitated through Optimum Vehicle Logistics, Oshkosh’s official distributor in the country, includes 50 M1070A1 heavy-duty trucks and 50 MN573 specialized heavy-duty semi-trailers.
The M1070A1 tractor features an 8×8 wheel configuration, a 700-horsepower Caterpillar C18 diesel engine, and a six-speed Allison automatic transmission. It can operate as part of a road train with a gross weight of up to 109 metric tons, making it suitable for transporting tanks, artillery, and recovery vehicles. The tractor’s cab offers ballistic protection and houses two winches with a combined pulling force of 45.3 metric tons.
The MN573 semi-trailers, developed in collaboration with Dutch company Broshuis B.V., include hydraulic suspension and PL2 pendulum axles with steering wheels. Morocco has already received the first batch of M1070A1 tractor units, which are now in active service with the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces.
These vehicles will enable the Moroccan Army to transport American M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams main battle tanks, 155-mm CAESAR self-propelled artillery systems, M109A5s, and M88A2 Hercules armored recovery vehicles. Earlier this year, Oshkosh Defense also secured a contract from the U.S. Army for additional FMTV A2 LVAD trucks, including kits for Arctic operations.
