Nadella Advocates for Broader AI Access Across India

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella emphasized the importance of making artificial intelligence accessible to all sectors and communities in India, particularly farmers, businesses, and rural areas. He highlighted that AI's benefits will only be realized when everyone can benefit from and contribute to its development.

Nadella made these remarks at the Ideas4India forum in Seattle, where he also emphasized the need for national sovereignty, control over knowledge, and human oversight in AI development. He noted that a general-purpose technology like AI should extend benefits across countries and sectors, not just a select few.

The Microsoft CEO illustrated AI's potential through a demonstration he witnessed in Delhi, where an Indian developer combined a GPT model with language services to help a rural farmer access government schemes via WhatsApp. The system allowed the farmer to converse in their local language and explained access to subsidies while attempting to assist with required paperwork.

Nadella urged technology leaders to ensure that AI reaches a broader audience, including communities across India. He emphasized the importance of developing a wider ecosystem around advanced AI, allowing people to both benefit from and contribute to its knowledge.
