NASA Bails Out Boeing's Troubled Starliner Spacecraft
NASA is pouring more resources and money into Boeing's Starliner spacecraft to get it operational as soon as possible. The capsule has faced numerous problems, including a botched mission in 2024 that left its two test pilots stuck at the International Space Station for nearly a year.
The incident was later classified by NASA as a 'Type A mishap,' their most severe ranking. Despite these setbacks, NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman announced Monday that Boeing should be ready to launch a new and improved Starliner with cargo but no crew by December.
Astronauts will not strap in until 2028 due to the need for further safety redesigns that could take months or even years. Manager Dana Weigel emphasized that everyone must be confident that all of Starliner's problems have been resolved before putting astronauts back on board.
