Netlist Sues Tech Giants Over Alleged HBM Patent Infringement
Netlist has launched a patent infringement lawsuit against several major tech companies, including Micron, Nvidia, Broadcom, and Google. The company claims that these firms have used its high-bandwidth memory (HBM) patents without permission.
According to the complaint filed in the US District Court for the Central District of California, Netlist alleges that Micron has used its HBM patents in several products, including the Crucial P1 and P5 NVMe SSDs. The company also claims that Nvidia has incorporated its HBM patents into several of its graphics processing units (GPUs), while Broadcom is accused of using the technology in its Ethernet controllers.
Google, meanwhile, is alleged to have used Netlist's HBM patents in its Tensor Processing Units (TPUs). Netlist is seeking damages and a permanent injunction to prevent further infringement. The company has been involved in several patent disputes in the past, including one with Micron in 2018.
Netlist's lawsuit comes as the tech industry continues to grapple with patent disputes related to emerging technologies like HBM. The company's CEO, Chris A.inton, was not quoted in the source, but it is worth noting that Netlist has been a vocal advocate for patent reform and has criticized companies like Micron for allegedly infringing on its patents.
